I have a standard protocol I hunt with:
1) Dig all coin signals at any depth.
2) Dig all signals that are four inches deep or deeper, unless I am convinced the signal is iron.
3) If I am finding a lot of the new square pulltabs at four inches then I adjust the must-dig depth on step two by one inch.
4) Always re-scan the hole after I remove a target. Masking is everywhere!
This protocol works for me. It may seem like an obvious protocol but I didn’t always hunt with a protocol in mind. I think having a protocol and sticking to it makes for a more interesting hunt.
The protocol is a living thing. I will adjust it as I learn more about metal detecting in general and as I learn more about my detectors specifically.
Thank you for looking!
